Here's a small Capoeira scene I made a few years ago. The girl doing the cartwheel is me (Model Gal) and the guy is my Capoeira Mestre Elias Fonseca.

Elias is holding a berimbau and there is an atabaque (drum) in front.

If you don't know what Capoeira is, its a combination of martial arts, gymnastics, and dance from Brazil. I've been doing it for many years.

You can read more about it at Model Building Secrets' Blog.

Mixing scales

You don't see miniland mixed with fig scale very often, but Cuahchic uses miniland technique well in this statue of Robert the Bruce.

Hinckley's Miniland Gallery

Mark Larson (aka Hinckley, of eurobricks fame) recently began a job as a model builder for Legoland parks. He's got a flickr gallery showing off some of his latest work, much of it miniland. Be sure to check out the rest of the gallery, but here is a small sample:

World's leaders meet at Legoland

I just ran across this. Last March, when the G20 leaders were meeting in London, they also met in Legoland Windsor.

I'm too lazy to go through and figure out which leader each fig represents (okay, the blond woman is Germany's Chancellor Merkel), but here are Gordon Brown and Barack Obama.

And what world summit is complete without a protest, here as the leaders are assembling outside of 10 Downing Place.

Gotta love those British Master Builders. It seems like they do more of these little changing Easter eggs than some of the other parks (e.g. I know they regularly sprinkle in different Dr. Who characters, and I've seen pics from Windsor of Star Wars and Spider-Man characters making appearances). Of course, California did that huge display of the Obama inauguration. BTW, all photo credits to China A2Z News.

Inside tour

Barman went to Legoland Billund for the annual inside tour. He's got a great gallery of pics from their Miniland. BTW, not really relevant to this blog, but it looks like participants got a special limited edition set of Ole Kirk's house.

Model Shop

Blockparadise got to go on a tour of the Legoland California Model Shop. I love these little glimpses into what the park model builders are doing. I just wish we could see good pics of every one of the models crammed around shelves and workspaces.

BTW, note the miniland scale model of this guy.

Yumyumbubblegum proved that ducks play with LEGO, at least at Legoland Windsor.

Begun this [miniland] clone wars is...

I found this over at TBB and must say Ochre Jelly has done it again. This time he takes on the Clone Wars. Some nice action here. And the lightsaber effect is quite interesting . He's got more pictures and figures over at his blog. Its worth a look.

Viva Las Vegas!

It's that time of year when families go on vacation, to places like Legoland, Vegas, or both at the same time. Pics of the New York New York and Luxor casinos from DisneyMama and Gereeeeee, respectively.

Master Model Builder search

As one of the challenges in searching for new Master Model Builders, candidates had a free build to make something that could be found in the Legoland park. Adam (?) came up with this monument (photo credit to Mariann Asanuma). BTW, Mariann gives a much more detailed account of the process on her blog.

Ice on fire

The 20th build challenge over on Lugnuts was called Fire and Ice. Once again, Lino Martins and Nathan Proudlove teamed up to give us Lino's tricked out 1970 Ford Pinto (an explosive car with an explosive color scheme and Nathan's uber-cool Brain Freeze.

Nevermind

Apparently Legoland California will not be adding Michael Jackson to their miniland display after all. I'm guessing a lawyer from the Jackson estate objected to the use of his image unless Legoland paid them a hefty fee. Or maybe someone at Legoland thought that with Michael's, um, legal difficulties, it might not be so appropriate to include him in a children's attraction.

King of pop coming to Legoland

According to the LA Times, Legoland California is going to be adding a 4-inch Michael Jackson to their miniland display. The San Diego Union-Trib added some details - at first they were going with a Thriller version, but decided instead to let the fans decide. Go to the CNN I-Report story (narrated by Eric Hunter, btw) to give your input on which model they should use. Tomorrow they will add one of the five below to the Hollywood display at the park - apparently he'll be getting out of a limo outside of Grauman's Theater.

Congratulations, Ryan, and all new Master Builders!

Legoland California recently held a competition to hire new Master Builders. One of their new employees is Ryan Wood, aka Lights. His portfolio for his application included his family. Btw, taking photos with my daughter often ends up like this as well. Congratulations to Ryan and all of the new Legoland builders! I'll be blogging your work in miniland soon.
