House
Last fall at the Twin Cities Brick Expo, Dave Savage displayed this house at a couple of different scales. The miniland scale version opens up and is at least partially finished inside. Does anyone know if this is Dave's own house? Photo credits to garthdanielson and Bisonfuehrer.

BrickJournal
I recently picked up BrickJournal 4 Vol 2 at my local LEGO store. I know, I'm behind - issue 5 is coming out already. Anyway, there are a couple of items for the Miniland Fan. Didier Enjeray wrote an article with instructions on how to build a pair of miniland figs. There's also a feature article on the builder MonsterBrick that includes his Tinkerbell. Hmm, does this actually count as miniland? It's miniland building techniques, but since she's a pixie, it's pretty much built at a 1:1 scale.

Table full of Lino

Some miniland reading
Three years ago Allan Bedford published the Unofficial LEGO Builder's Guide. It's a great entry into learning how to build with LEGO, and at least at one point was sold in the official LEGO stores. Thanks are due to Didier Enjary, who pointed out that you can download and read Chapter 4: L'ECHELLE MINILAND: UN MONDE ENTIER EN MINIATURE for free. That translates to "Miniland Scale: A Whole World in Miniature." As you may have guessed, this chapter is from the French translation of the book, but even if you do not parlez Francaise, I'd still download the chapter as there are many pictures that will help you with building at this scale. Better yet, follow the link and buy the whole book.

Happy Birthday to Legoland
Legoland California recently celebrated it's 10th birthday with the world's largest birthday cake, depicting scenes from around the park, including miniland figs visiting a Miniland scaled to miniland scale and a scaled version of a lifesize sculpture found outside of various LEGO stores. This cake is on its way to Brickfest this weekend, so we'll probably see more pics as people start posting galleries. Happy Saint Patrick's Yesterday
Oops, I'm a day late on this. Blame it on the green beer. Every month there is a free event at official LEGO stores where kids are able to build, and keep, Monthly Mini Models. This month, the model was a Leprachaun, designed by Erik Varszegi. Thanks to Dave Shaddix for the photo and Mariann of Model Building Secrets for the heads-up.

Box o' blocks
At the recent Toy Fair, LEGO showed off their 2009 products to retailers. All of the big news seems to be about upcoming sets in the various themes like Star Wars, Castle and Indiana Jones, the upcoming new Space Police line and an announcement of a partnership with Disney for new licensed themes. Perhaps less prominent were some back-to-the-basics Creator sets of simple bricks. Their display shows you don't need fancy specialized pieces to build miniland figs.
