Legoland Florida

In looking for more information on the Star Wars Miniland at Legoland California, I noticed for the first time the official website for Legoland Florida, due to open in October. I have no idea how long this has been up as it's been months since I've looked at this website). The video that is on that site is actually from Legoland California, but you can see artists conceptions of what the park will look like. The Miniland section will have New York City, Washington DC and Las Vegas, much like in the California park, but there will be a large section devoted to the sites of Florida, including a large section devoted to the Kennedy Space Center (presumably much like we've seen at other parks) and the Daytona 500. Interestingly, there will also be a section devoted to a pirate battle. As Mariann noted, Miniland displays at the parks have always focused on the real life present day world, but with Star Wars in California and pirates in Florida (not that there weren't pirates in the real world), it seems that they're expanding into more adventurous play in their displays. My own theme of choice is Castle, and I'd love to see some things at the parks developed along these lines (in addition to the real castle landmarks seen at several of the parks). I mean, Legoland Windsor is simply crying out for a whole section devoted to King Arthur.

Star Wars Miniland

Some big news came out yesterday. On March 31, Legoland California will open up a new section of Miniland recreating the Star Wars universe. We've previously seen miniland Star Wars characters hidden as Easter eggs in the Legoland parks, but this will show full scenes from all six of the movies and from Clone Wars, including all of the characters you know and love in action, and a Millennium Falcon that looks like it's about five feet long. I wonder how big the Death Star would be at this scale (though in the press release, it looks as if the section devoted to A New Hope will be based around Mos Eisley).

Here comes the bride

My apologies for my lack of blogging in recent weeks. I've been busy with family and holidays and also with the administration of the Colossal Castle Contest. Anyway, bride and groom pairs are among the most common miniland MOCs. Mariann Asanuma came up with a very humorous take on this theme.
