Legoland California recently held a competition to hire new Master Builders. One of their new employees is Ryan Wood, aka Lights. His portfolio for his application included his family. Btw, taking photos with my daughter often ends up like this as well. Congratulations to Ryan and all of the new Legoland builders! I'll be blogging your work in miniland soon.

Esbjerg Train Station
RStanek recently went to Legoland (Billund?).
I guess they're filming a new Bionicle movie in the California section of the park:

Here comes the (LEGO) bride
When Joose007 and his new wife recently went to Florida on their honeymoon, they saw a rather appropriate model at the LEGO Imagination Center outside of Disney World.

Knowing is half the battle
I was surfing around the LEGO Universe site and found that Sigma6 had designed several GI Joe characters including Hershel "Heavy Duty" Dalton and Snake-Eyes.

Builder identified - Victorian houses
I found some better photos (thanks, Bill ward!). These Victorian Houses are by Rae McCormick. I did some searching and here's the MOCpage The gray one isn't posted there yet, and MOCpages doesn't seem to have the back half of the blue one, either. The detailing on these is amazing - note, for instance, the rainspout on the gray one. I wonder if these were inspired in part by Legoland California (that pic is from when I was there in August 2002).

Miniland for sale
I did not realize that at Legoland you could buy glued models, including some from Miniland. Some of these have made their way to Bricklink, such as this vampire. I'm guessing this was on sale during the Halloween season last year.

BrickWorld
Photos are starting to appear from the BrickWorld festival in Chicago. MickyChas has a picture of this great house. Does anyone know the builder?

Who ya gonna call?
Last weekend, German AFOLs gathered in Berlin for 1000SteineLand. Among the many amazing creations on display was a miniland layout. Does anyone know the builders?

Slave Leia
This past weekend was Star Wars Days at Legoland California. Sadly, it doesn't seem that they made any special creations to go in Miniland (there were Clone Trooper minifigs hidden in the displays for you to find - kind of lame, IMO). However, as part of the display of fan MOCs, Master Builder Andy Grub made this Slave Leia, here posing with Bill Vollbrecht's Jabba the Hutt.

Sailing, sailing, over the bounding main
Jan has several photos from the Wheels, Wings and Waves display which was previously in Vancouver, but is now at the Saskatchewan Science Center through September 7.

Lino has posted a picture of The Whole Miniland Gang! as he calls it. These are the various Miniland scale people he has made to tie in with his many creations.

If I'd known you were coming I'd have baked a cake
I've previously blogged the giant cake created for the 10th birthday of Legoland. It's traveled around to different events and was recently at Maker Faire 2009. Detail shots thanks to Jayembee and Leachmanbeck.

Star Wars weekend
LEGO Star Wars Days is this coming weekend (June 13-14) at Legoland California. If you're in the area, check it out for special events and displays, including involvement from the fan community. Sometimes for holidays and events they will include little Easter eggs in the Miniland displays, like this Imperial Invasion from Legoland Windsor, so if anyone sees Obi Wan hanging with Obama in that inauguration display*, snap some pics and let me know. BTW, thanks to Mariann for the reminder.
*Is that huge inauguration still up, btw? They initially said it would be up for a couple of months, but I've recently seen new pictures of it on Flickr (though, of course, those may be old pics that someone just now decided to upload to Flickr).

Reclaiming space
Recently, New York City closed Times Square to traffic, or, as Sean Kenney puts it, they finally opened the area to pedestrians. As he writes in his Reclaiming Space:
Here in New York City, planners have realized the easiest way to get space back for people is to simply paint the street tan, set up some chairs, and call it a plaza. . . . For the first time in my life, I sat in Times Square and enjoyed myself. I was proud to be a New Yorker, and proud to live in a city that is starting to understand that human interaction is more important than cars-per-minute and travel lanes.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Miniland Galaxy
I found these over at the LEGO Miniland Flickr group page. Harrison, aka corran101 has created these great versions of Arthur Dent and Zaphod Beeblebrox from the classic book and film The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
I think he did a great job in capturing the essence of both characters.

Amazing Spider-Man
Looking through a gallery of photos from a LEAHI display (that's the LEGO Enthusiasts' Association of Hawaii), I see three great miniland creations: rooftop battle, Matsumoto grocery store and this guy in a hammock. The first two, and I assume the third, are by "Patrick" - I assume these are by Patrick Yrizarry. If so, could someone (and here I'm talking to you, Nelson), kick Patrick in the butt and get him to post photos of his creations on-line? I'd love to see more and better pictures of these.
